We’ve been eating cabbage every New Year’s Day for about five years now. I’m starting to question whether we had it last year though? Haha – no, we did. 2020 was ROUGH, but it did bring joy too- and lessons learned. Our last baby boy was born in April, and we spent a lot of time home as a family + getting some home projects done- we had our health – so it truly wasn’t THAT bad. This year I decided to switch my normal cabbage recipe up, and threw in some Polska sausage + potato’s. Normally I’ll do a cabbage soup, or a fried cabbage – with a bacon. I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of an old fashioned cast iron skillet- I’ll link ours below.
1 head cabbage
4-5 potato’s cut and diced into cubes
Bacon (cooked)
Polska sausage (cooked)
Apple Cider Vinegar
Chicken Broth
Minced Garlic
Red Pepper Flakes, garlic powder, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, & pepper
You’ll want to cook the bacon first, and then use the drippings from that to brown your sausage. After bacon is cooked, and sausage is brown-toss in minced garlic- let sit and cook 1-3 more min- then you’ll toss in your cabbage + potato’s- chicken broth, apple cider, and all your seasonings! Let cook for about 30 min!
